Clydebank residents aged 60 years and older, who have yet to benefit from the £15 Christmas payment, are being encouraged to apply this month.
Every resident who was 60 years old by December 1, 2011 – and who lives in West Dunbartonshire – is eligible for the money. The corporate and efficient governance committee recently agreed to continue the grant payments, allowing anyone who has not yet claimed their money to do so.
The Council is using the same nomination process as last year and so only new applicants or those who wish to change the details provided last year need to apply before the July 31 deadline. Individuals need to inform the Council if they would like the payment paid directly into their bank account or to a nominated elderly welfare organisation.
Councillor Kath Ryall, the convenor of corporate services, said: “This payment is not means tested and I encourage everyone who has not previously benefited to fill in an application form and submit it within the deadline. In the current financial climate, every little helps, especially come Christmas time when we all typically feel the pinch.”
Further information and nomination forms can be collected from West Dunbartonshire Council offices in Clydebank and Dumbarton, as well as libraries, housing offices, social work day care centres and credit unions.
Further details and advice is also available from the Council’s Contact Centre by telephoning 01389 738282. The forms can be completed online at www.west-dunbarton.gov.uk, or downloaded and emailed to grants@west-dunbarton.gov.uk.
Residents can post their nomination form to Grants Administrator, Finance and Resource Services, West Dunbartonshire Council, Council Offices, Garshake Road, Dumbarton, G82 3PU. Completed forms can also be handed in to the same places distributing them.
Nomination forms must be received by Tuesday, July 31 to receive a payment this year. If your nomination form is not received by this date you may not qualify for funding in 2012.
